In the European Union alone,
there are well over 200 million adults and over 14 million children that are
classified as overweight or obese. The actual numbers are likely to be much
higher as the numbers are growing on a daily basis.
The forecast looks very gloomy
indeed. But it doesn't have to be that way ...
YOU
need to take responsibility for your own well-being. If you simply rely
on food companies and convenience retailers for your health, they will let you
down. They don't have your health interests at heart - many of them only care
about how much profit they can generate from their unhealthy offerings.
Overweight and obese people are
more likely to suffer from many health issues - here are just a few examples:
- Aches and pains
- Cancers (some types)
- Diabetes
- Heart disease
- Hypertension
- Stress
- Sleeplessness nights
If you are unhealthy, you
may not be able to enjoy life to the full. You might not experience the "here and now"
fully because there may be many things you simply can't do due to
weight issues. You are also more likely to shorten your life span due to
various illnesses.
Some general ideas (Always
seek medical advice before making any changes to your diet - each
individual is different with differing medical issues and requirements):
-
Reduce salt, sugars, fats -
most ready made meals and convenience foods use excessive quantities of such
ingredients
-
Increase healthy, fresh foods
- fruits and vegetables, etc.
-
Take regular exercise. For
instance, walk whenever possible - don't be lazy. Avoid the car if you can.
-
Avoid unhealthy drinks
-
Eat at least 3 or 4 hours before you go to sleep - if you sleep soon after eating, you are more likely to gain and retain unwanted weight
-
Drink a tall glass of water 30 minutes before your meal
-
Whether you are relaxing or eating, if you need to get something, get up and get it yourself - don't ask your child / partner / parent to fetch things for you
-
Don't keep on eating until you just can't eat any more - STOP eating when you are 80% full. Within 5 minutes, you will actually realise that you have eaten enough! That 20% extra is just that ... extra weight.
-
Avoid eating between meals -
avoid "junk" food
-
Eat only when you are really
hungry - most of us eat for "instant" enjoyment or for
"comfort" even when we are not hungry. Eating when we don't need
to eat just adds to our challenges.
But it doesn't have to be that
way ... Slimming and weight control
are within your reach ... if you want to be slim and fit, you can be ...
-
Always seek medical
advice before embarking upon a diet plan or other weight loss measures
-
There are many diets and diet
plans - some of them work, others fail miserably. Do your research and find
something that is likely to work for you
-
Hypnosis also works
wonderfully as it taps into your own subconscious mind to understand why you
overeat. Increased motivation and willpower enables you to make the
changes you want so you may become more healthier and happier.
In the final analysis, it's your life and of
course only you
can decide how to live it. If you are truly happy as you are, that's all that
counts.
